Electronic: Electronic music can be traced back to the late 1940s when pioneers such as Pierre Schaeffer first started experimenting with tape loops in Paris. Today, the genre has shifted from the confines of avant garde culture to the mainstream. In the 1970s, electronic dance music emerged, eventually developing into several sub-genres including techno, trance, house, happy hardcore etc. Electronic music has a huge following in Scotland, especially in the city club scenes. The genre continues to develop with many emerging crossover artists cleverly mixing traditional and electronic sounds.
