Angus Lyon - Accordion & Piano
Angus has been playing the accordion since he was 5 years old, competing at NAO events around the country he went on to become a British champion by the time he was 13.
After leaving school and working for a few years on the family farm he became a professional musician in 1999. The following year Angus released his solo album ‘Long Road’ which featured a host of Scotland’s top musicians. To promote the record he set up a.l.b (Angus Lyon band) which included the Fiddle player Ruaridh Campbell. The pair then recorded their first album together ‘Simple Tricks’ which was released in 2001.
Over the last ten years he as toured and recorded with Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Paul McCartney, Rick Nowels, Maartin Allcock, Nick Bicât, Dr Fred Freeman, John Wright, Ian Bruce & Chris Armstrong..
Ruaridh Campbell: Fiddle
Ruaridh started playing the violin at the age of 9 in his local primary school. His first teacher was the late Jaqui Menglar who instilled in him a passion for music and a love for the violin. Ruaridh would play at local events and fundraisers in his village of Aberfoyle, giving him his first taste of performing.
Ruaridh was later taught by virtuoso fiddler, Douglas Lawrence, a pupil of Hector McAndrew, who taught Ruaridh the intricisies of traditional Scottish fiddle music and encouraged him to compete at fiddle competitions, winning numerous times at the MOD, Banchory, Kirriemuir, and the Doric festival. In 2002, he won the Oban Highlands & Islands invitational ‘Fiddle Master’ competition and the prestigious Glennfiddich Fiddle Championship. He was also a finalist at the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the year.
Recently, Ruaridh has recorded string parts for bands and singer/songwriters in Glasgow and recorded session parts for artistes such as the piper Chris Armstrong and the multi instrumentalist Stevie Lawrence. |
